Why Berries?

We have heard many times how good berries are for us. A personal trainer once told me to pick berries as my fruit of choice. Many articles remind us to eat our berries. There are a million smoothie recipes that include berries. That got me thinking, why are they so good for us?

After a quick google search, here are a few things that caught my attention.

Berries are a superfruit per this article. So what is a superfruit? Fruits packed with antioxidants such as manganese, fiber, vitamins, and other minerals. These things can help us live longer, look better and reverse and prevent diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Sign me up, I’m interested.

As my research continues, I find that antioxidants can help your body fight stress. Antioxidants can protect and promote radiant skin and healthy hair. Vitamin C, one of the vitamins in berries, could possibly reduce the risk of cataracts and arthritis. Fiber helps keep blood pressure and cholesterol low while assisting in weight loss. Antioxidants seem like an amazing thing!

Little research is needed to determine their tastiness. I already know berries are sweet and appealing to the palate. Try those berries after you’ve had no sugar or processed food for a few weeks. Their sweetness will be extreme!

There are many berries at your local grocery store or farmer’s market to choose from. My favorites are blackberries, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Other options are acai berries, cranberries, goji berries, mulberries, cherries, and many more. If you are worried you can’t finish your fresh berries before they expire, freeze them or buy them already frozen. Any way you can get them, Eat your berries!
