It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Christmas! Yay! I just love this time of year. There's so much going on and it's just fantastic! The color of red fills our homes with red bows, Santa, poinsettias, and peppermint! It's cold outside and a cup of white chocolate mocha coffee warms our bones. It's gift giving season and we are thinking of others as we spend our time shopping and searching for the perfect gift. It's wonderful!

My babies are growing up quickly and I am beginning to realize it this year. There's no monster trucks or baby dolls on their lists this year. They want electronics and money. I miss shopping for toys and the good deals that I usually find on toys. But we make the best of it and Santa is sure to keep the fun even when they don't believe.

I love holiday shopping. Probably, because I love to shop. ha-ha. I love searching for deals and finding the best one! I love trying to figure out what to get each and every person on my list. I want others to feel appreciated and I want my gift to show that. It takes time to find the right gift for my holiday budget. Then, I always end up splurging, but my loved ones on my list are worth it.

Sparky, our Elf on the Shelf, always arrives on December 1st.  He always flies into our tree and sits for us to find him. He brings advent calendars with little chocolate candies for the kids. The seven-year-old can't wait to find him in the morning. The eleven-year-old can't wait to hide him at night.

Then there are the birthday parties. There are lots of children with December birthdays, including my two. Planning parties for children with birthdays on December 21st and 30th can be challenging. We make the best of it and try to give them a special day in the midst of the craziness. Hopefully, they recognize their day and enjoy it to the fullest!

What about family celebrations and friend parties? We have the best time opening presents, eating wonderful food, catching up with loved ones, and seeing Santa visit our parties. The parties are spectacular.

Oh, and annual Baking Day!!! Can you say, yum?!!!! It's a celebration I started over 20 years ago. One day, long ago...we had ice the week before Christmas in Texas. I was unable to make my hour commute to work, so my my mom came over to my apartment and we baked all day. I lived next door to a grocery store and we were able to buy what we needed. Through the years, we have always scheduled a baking day the weekend before Christmas. A few of our family members come help and we bake **and drink*** the day away. It's such a fun time. Lots of yummy sweets and just a day to hang out and laugh.

Finally, the most important reason for the season, Jesus! Without his birth we wouldn't have this "Most Wonderful Time of the Year!" It's a time to acknowledge him, thank him and worship him for all he has done for us. It's a time to celebrate Jesus!

The hustle and bustle of holiday shopping, parties, birthdays, elves, baking and Jesus are what make this time of year so Wonderful! It's a beautiful time and we need to enjoy every single moment of it. Yes, it's crazy! But it's wonderful!
