Do This Before Attempting Habit Change

So, you decide you want to make changes in your life. Maybe you want to eat healthy, go back to college, start working out, or just start something new in your life. Before you jump right in, feet first, you need to stop and think about the changes that need to be made.

Changing your ways or habits is not always easy. You need to be prepared and ready for whatever comes your way in your quest to make change. To be prepared, you need to clear the clutter out of your life.

Think about it this way, you want new furniture. Do you pick out the furniture and have it delivered? No, you must get rid of the old furniture and make room for the new stuff. (Or plan for the furniture delivery company to pick up the old stuff.) A new couch isn’t going work or look good on top of an old couch. What’s the point?

Clearing clutter can look different for different people. Clutter can be cleaning out a closet, pantry, or your wallet. It can be clearing your schedule or pulling away from negative people that are bringing you down. It can be resolving issues in your life that have been on your mind or need to be worked out.

You will be amazed at how your mind is freed when clutter is released. This opens the doors for new habits, new ideas, and new life. You will accomplish great things.

Every new year, I like to pick clutter to clean out. So far, this year, I’ve cleaned my closet, the kid’s rooms/closets, my office, garage, and my wallet. I’m saving the kitchen, linen closet, and washroom for another time.

This year when I cleaned my closet, I made significant progress. There were some old clothes that I finally got rid of. It feels so freeing to finally have a closet that makes me smile. Now, I am ready to take on the world, or maybe change a few habits. What clutter needs to be freed from your life?
