All about that bass...

Workout music…nothing gets me going like the perfect combo of uplifting, booming tunes. Please don’t discount the importance of a good rhythm and catchy lyrics during your workout. What will get you burning calories faster?? Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge over Troubled Water” or Britney’s “Stronger”?? The music jamming out of your headphones doesn’t necessarily have to be profound, life-affirming, or cool. It should be energizing, stimulating & enough to get you off of your behind and moving. Now if anyone threw my headphones on and pressed on my workout playlist on my iPhone, they would be assaulted with the most all over the place selections…from Bastille to Metallica to Queen Bey to Enrique Iglesias to Eric Church to Justin Bieber (We have two girls…I’ll take a free pass on that one…). I’ve gotta have a good beat to get me going and keep my muscles churning through the entire workout. If one of my Foreigner power ballads sneaks in, I get all distracted with pumping my fist and belting it out…totally fine for vacuuming the house, but not for running up a hill. I have always wanted to be more Type A and calculate my timing on my regular runs to coordinate the perfect straightaways/uphill/downhill run & song combinations…but ain’t nobody got time for that! But it would be awesome.

If you are looking for a place to get ideas to start up a great workout song list, Google is a great go-to source (when is it not, really?). Here are some lists I found:

DISCLAIMER: Trust me…I’m not trying to tell you what to listen to...just what works the best for me. Music choices are COMPLETELY personal and totally subjective. What works for the goose may not work for the gander. If you get moving to Yanni or John Tesh, no offense taken here…I’m just glad you are moving.
